Mission
Rethink and reshape participation through evidence.
To create a nationally integrated, data-driven sport and play ecosystem that empowers leaders to rethink and reshape participation through evidence-based decisions, investment, and impact measurement.
Vision
Quality sport and play opportunities for every community.
A Canada where every community, regardless of background or location, can access and benefit from quality sport and play opportunities powered by insight and innovation.
By establishing a clear baseline of participation and understanding where, how, and why dollars flow, SportBI Canada can help unlock new and non-traditional sources of capital and ensure decisions are guided by evidence, equity, and impact.
Value proposition
SportBI Canada delivers a unified, secure, and intelligent data ecosystem for sport and play. By connecting participation, facility, and program data across the country, it enables organizations, policymakers, and funders to make smarter, faster, and more equitable decisions that drive participation and investment growth.
Approach
This initiative is about unifying the sector, not duplicating what already exists. SportBI Canada brings strong work already underway across the ecosystem to the table through an open, collaborative model built to work with everyone, for everyone.
The point of differentiation is clear: this is not data for data’s sake. The sector already has data. What has been missing is the ability to turn that information into actionable insight that can unlock investment, mobilize capital, and shift how decisions are made.
This work has been shaped over several years by a shared commitment to improve access, grow participation, and strengthen investment decisions across the sport system. Current sector momentum is an opportunity to accelerate that work, not a reaction to a single funding moment.
Goals
- Increase participation in sport and play through an intersectional lens.
- Remove barriers and improve access for under-represented, marginalized, and equity-deserving groups.
- Strengthen and articulate the social value of sport and play so they are recognized as drivers of healthier, more resilient, and more active communities.
- Redefine the role and value of contributors and beneficiaries within and adjacent to the broader sport ecosystem.
- Unlock and mobilize capital by transforming existing data into actionable insight that attracts non-traditional revenue, drives smarter investment, accelerates infrastructure development, and fuels sustainable growth.
Work advanced through the steering committee
COC, CPC, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, and Community Foundations of Canada have helped steer the work through participation, accessibility, disability, youth, and community lenses. Their work has advanced the foundation for national facility intelligence, local area profiles, social value methodology, data governance, and partner onboarding.
What this means for the sport system
For the sport system, SportBI Canada can mean fewer parallel data asks, clearer reporting, stronger investment cases, better visibility of participation barriers, and a shared evidence base for decisions that improve access, inclusion, and community impact.
